Guys, just a few notes:
1. We are in the one day tourney for the 15th. Will forward location and schedule once posted. All players that wanted to participate are to have their $20 turned into Anil by Tuesday the 10th. I assume that Anil has already texted or emailed all of you as a reminder, as he is the person assigned the responsibility for this event.
2. The following players attended Friday's team practice. Luke, Casey, Kevin, Omar, Illouise, Davin, Brandon, and Cameron. Those not attending: Anil, Anthony, Kolby, Deven, Devon, Evan, and EJ. Reminder this is the only day we work on team issues, and it's the only way we will become proficient at the few plays we have now. Until, we can run our current sets, we can't move on and expand our arsenal. Many of you want to play in tournaments this summer, but it is a waste of time and money if we can't compete due to lack of knowledge. Also, the players above do get the 50 points extra credit on their attendance.
3. Our long awaited move of going on Saturday instead of Sunday should have been the perfect time as it did not conflict with Mother's Day. Attendance was poor at best. The only good part is the following players either let me know personally (always the best) or through one of the team: Casey, Cameron, Kolby, Deven, Evan, and Anil. Anthony, nobody knew where you were.
4. On both days (Friday and Saturday), we did discuss at length the possibility of becoming an AAU team for a number of reasons on both days. None of those reasons benefit me. It will require a lot of time, fund raising and travel to reach the goal I am considering for next year. If you were not in attendance both days, I strongly suggest you speak to someone who was in attendance both days. This would be an extremely important opportunity for any of you that hope to play at the next level. I know what I would like to have happen for those with that ambition, but you cannot understand how much work it will require, not only by me, but you the players and just as importantly your support group. Rest assured, I will not go forward unless I feel I am surrounded with players that will make the necessary sacrifices so that we can compete at a high level. As a coach, I have proven I can get players of lesser talent to compete at the highest level in the country, but effort and dedication was never a second thought in regard to me or the players that were selected. In my mind I already have reservations about several of you, but that alone can be addressed in other ways. Please know this is nothing close to being a travel team. Also, my plans would be the same as when I had an AAU team in New England, and that is quite simply to get exposure for you and the program so college scouts know the kind of players we produce. I am extremely proud to say, there was not a player who played for that organization that did not get an offer to play at the collegiate level. But, they all deserved it. Also, there are a few many AAU teams in California, but most are not playing in the major invitational tournaments, they do play in a few lesser tournaments, but any team can enter those. So, I am sure it's exciting news to everyone. But, I will be very selective on who even gets consideration. It is already pretty late in the AAU season, and I will decide soon if I should risk sacrificing so much time and effort into putting a team together for a few of those type events this season, and also decide which age bracket to consider.
5. Lastly, I already commit about 25 to 30 hours a week to just what we are doing now, and it will take a considerable effort to get all this rolling. It will require some support from your families, so the sooner I know which players are willing to do what it takes, the sooner I can send out information to parents about the varying forms of assistance that I will require. I will look at the attendance not only for our normal player/ athletic development sessions, but our 4 team practices thus far and in the future to help determine if you are willing candidate, to do what's necessary. As I have told all of you and most of your parents, it's not about what you want, it's about what you are willing to do, to get what you want.
6. Illouise, I am still waiting for the parents email list.
7. As always, please share with your parents or forward a copy to them.
